In the previous chapter, we discussed minimising distractions as a crucial method for improving observation skills. This chapter will explore how playing games can enhance our observation skills. When I mention "games," I'm not referring to PubG and FIFA video games; rather, I'm referring to mental games.

Unlocking Better Memory with Mental Workouts.

Mind games are mental workouts to help keep your brain sharp. Despite compelling science that everyday behaviours can improve memory, most people find it difficult to change old habits. However, the challenge becomes much easier when people understand the link between everyday behaviour and brain health.

Before we move forward, do you want to check your brain memory baseline rate? Ask a friend to write down 08 unrelated words (E.g.: Horse, Clown, Tree, Doctor, Pipe, Guitar, Orange, and Chair) Study them for a minute, do something else for 10 minutes, and then write down as many words as you can remember to get your baseline memory score.

I recommend trying the exercise mentioned above before you read below further to see real results. The following section will help boost your memory power and you can try the exercise again to experience improved brain memory.

Here is a helpful memory trick: creating visual images that represent information can boost memory. One recommended technique is the story method, which is useful for remembering lists and errands by linking words in a story. Spend a minute creating a story that links the words together to boost recall.

As per the example given earlier, with the 08 words, perhaps you can visualize a clown with orange hair riding a horse, or a doctor smoking a pipe and playing the guitar. Use your first associations and link the images in any order you like. Now, write the words again and see how much better your memory has become already.

Mental stimulation from games, puzzles, reading, and conversations is the key to unlocking better memory. That's why I chose this topic to share with you all!

Enhancing Thinking Ability through Fun and Games.

Physical exercise keeps our bodies strong, and now scientific evidence suggests that mental exercise keeps our brains young. There are many games available online and in apps that can help wake up your brain and improve your thinking skills. You can gradually increase the challenge level as you build your skills.

The left side of the brain typically controls language and reasoning skills in right-handed people, while the right side controls visual skills and orientation in left-handed people. We can choose games that target the specific skills we want to improve.

Here is one more exercise to improve your observation skills.

"Frank has very eccentric tastes.

He’s a fan of football but hates rugby;

loves beer but hates ale;

drives a Ferrari but wouldn’t be caught dead in a Lamborghini.

Based on Frank’s finicky tastes,

would he prefer skiing or cycling?”

The answer is skiing... Think why?

(Scroll down if you couldn't find why was it?)

Building Patience, Confidence, and Focus through Play.

Playing games builds patience. To win, you must think, observe, and focus. Rushing a puzzle can lead to frustration. Patience leads to confidence and victory.

Playing logic games and puzzles is a great way to exercise your brain. improve concentration, problem-solving skills, and cognitive ability. Taking a break to play a game can refresh you and change your perspective during tedious work.

Playing games can improve mental clarity and focus by exercising the brain. Like other muscles, the brain needs to be trained to perform at its best.

Playing games can help you set and achieve goals. Logic games improve your thinking and push you toward success, making it easier to reach your goals.

The Social and Mental Benefits of Engaging in Mind Games.

Playing games opens up a new world of social interaction. You have to get to know your opponent, predict their moves, and communicate well. Whether you play in person or online, gaming can lead to lasting friendships with like-minded people.

Playing games can be more than just a way to pass the time. Choose your games carefully and use them to practice focusing and improving your observation skills. By playing mind games, you can become a better observer and enhance your learning.

And here is the answer for Frank’s finicky taste:

Skiing: since he only likes words that contain double letters :P
