Updated: Nov 7, 2024

(Series 01: The Art of Observing Opportunities for Wealth Creation.)

In the preceding chapter, we delved into the Art of Observing Wealth Creation. We talked about the significance of being watchful and attentive to identify these opportunities. We also touched upon the importance of Identifying Opportunities and highlighted the key difference between Seeing vs. Observing, and why Developing Observation Skills is crucial for Better Decision-Making. Building on these concepts, in the current chapter, we will be exploring the 'Know Your Subject Theory' in greater depth. This theory is centred on the idea that to make informed and effective decisions, you must have a sound understanding of the subject matter at hand. By having a deep comprehension of the subject, you can better evaluate the pros and cons and make decisions that are more likely to yield positive outcomes.

How to Hone Your Observation Skills.

Observation is a valuable and essential skill that can be learned and practised. By honing your observation skills, you can sharpen your mind and make observation an integral part of your daily routine. One of the most critical tips for effective observation is to know your subject thoroughly. To be an effective observer, you should not just observe for the sake of it. Instead, you must have a clear understanding of what you want to observe when to observe it, and why you are observing it. By knowing your subject, you can identify the relevant details and patterns that are essential to your observations. This ability to be observant is crucial in finding opportunities that may otherwise go unnoticed. Therefore, by focusing on your subject, you can become a more skilled and effective observer.

Finding the Subject of a Sentence: Tips and Tricks.

During our old school days, we learned how to write in English, and one of the things that our English teacher taught us was how to find the subject of a sentence. However, finding the subject of a sentence can be challenging, depending on the type of subject the sentence contains. If the subject is simple, it's usually not difficult to identify. However, if the subject is part of a complex phrase, it can be a bit trickier.

The key to finding the subject of a sentence is to use question words such as "who" and "what" to try to identify it. For instance, asking yourself "Who is doing the action?" or "Who is being described?" can help identify the subject. Alternatively, replacing "who" with "what" may help to identify the subject as well. Finding the subject of a sentence can be challenging, but using question words, looking for nouns and proper nouns, and understanding the different forms that subjects can take can help to make the process easier.

Let's see how the above example relates to our goal of being more selective in choosing the right subject to observe.

Laser Focus: The Key to Achieving Your Goals.

When it comes to achieving our goals, one of the most important things to consider is having a laser focus on the subject we wish to pursue. This means that we should dedicate our time, energy, and attention towards understanding and mastering the specific area we want to excel in.

For instance, if you aspire to become an author, it is imperative to read and analyze various writings and articles related to your field. By doing so, you will gain insights and knowledge that will help you develop your writing skills and style. Similarly, if you want to get promoted in your team, it is essential to observe and learn from your team leader or manager, understand their approach to handling things, and implement the same in your work.

No matter what profession you are in, whether it is teaching, law, music, dance, or any other field, it is crucial to choose the right subject and focus on it with all you might. By doing so, you can gain the necessary expertise, hone your skills, and achieve success in your chosen field. Remember, laser focus is the key to success!

Choosing the Right Subject for Effective Observation.

Observation is an important skill that we all possess. However, observing something effectively requires having a deep understanding of the subject at hand. Let's consider the scenario of an art class, where one student decides to draw a portrait of a waterfall. He goes to the location, sits in front of the waterfall, and draws his portrait. Later, his painting is placed in the hall, and the other students are asked to draw the same waterfall, but this time focusing solely on the portrait. They are not sent to the actual location but are expected to draw from their memories of the portrait.

While the output of both sets of students may be the same, it is important to note that the second set of students did not get a chance to choose their subject and missed out on the opportunity to experience the beauty and grandeur of the real scenery. They were not able to omit any unnecessary details and did not have the chance to hear the sounds of birds and the thundering noise of the waterfall.

This highlights the significance of subject choice in observation. What we choose to observe, and how we choose to observe it, can play a significant role in our personal growth and development. By selecting a subject that resonates with us, we can develop our inner creativity and artistic abilities. So, it is crucial to understand the subject at hand and choose it wisely to observe it effectively.

The Role of Subject Choice in Personal Growth and Development.

Observation is a crucial aspect of understanding how things work around us. It involves integrating what we see with what we already know. However, to be an informed observer, it is essential to have a deep understanding of how a particular team, place or process normally operates. This knowledge provides a framework for understanding what is normal and what is not and enables us to detect any deviations from the expected patterns. By being aware of what is typical, we can also identify any potential issues or opportunities for improvement that might arise. In short, being an informed observer means having a solid grasp of the context in which you are observing, and using that knowledge to make informed judgments and decisions.

Are you ready to take your observational skills to the next level? In the upcoming chapter, we'll reveal one more incredible tip that will help you sharpen your senses and become an even more observant person. Get excited to learn something new!
